Every day now new examples of the Left’s witless inanities are inflicted upon us. The latest is the most recent “Islamophobia” Report from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).1 Written in collaboration with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the Left’s most prominent hate group,2 it is a study in vindictiveness, misdirection, dishonesty, stupidity, and outright fraud. Because CAIR enjoys protection from the Left’s commanding control of the levers of culture, however, it is able to pull this hat trick off with relative ease. Our job is to expose it, and in so doing, reveal how dangerous and destructive this group and its allies really are. In this article, I dissect just a few of CAIR’s numerous errors and deliberate deceptions.

First we must ask: what is “Islamophobia”? Well, CAIR doesn’t exactly say, which is actually understandable, because if they told you what it means, you would laugh out loud. One of their sympathizers, Esam Omeish, was honest enough to put it in a Facebook post (which wasn’t blocked by FB, unlike some posts critical of Islam). See screen shot in next column.

tsc-30-1-simpson-1.gif

So we’re all “haters” if we express alarm at people being murdered by Islamic terrorists? Have you finished laughing yet? But it’s no joke. The writer of the post is serious, and this is not just anyone: Esam Omeish is described as “chief of General and Laparoscopic Surgery” at INOVA Alexandria Hospital, in Virginia, (be sure to avoid surgery there. You might lose your head over it). Omeish is a former leader of the Muslim Students Association, and the Muslim American Society — both prominent Muslim Brotherhood groups. He is also a founding board member of the Dar Al-Hijra mosque in Falls Church, Virginia.3

Dar Al-Hijra’s former Imam was the infamous Anwar al-Awlaki — mentor to Fort Hood terrorist, Nidal Hassan. Awlaki was later thankfully killed in a drone strike in Yemen. Hassan, along with two of the 9-11 terrorists, attended the mosque during 2001, when Awlaki was Imam.4 Another attendee was Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, an Al Qaeda member convicted of attempting to assassinate President George W. Bush.5

Can we say — Islamic Terrorists?

If we do, we are… wait for it… Islamophobes! How did you know I’d say that? It turns out that the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) defines the use of the term “Islamic terrorists” as Islamophobia. The OIC is the world’s largest Islamic group, and the second largest intergovernmental organization in the world — including 56 nations and the Palestinian territories. It wields substantial influence over the United Nations, and was able to convince the UN to insert its blasphemy definitions into UN Human Rights Council (HRC)Resolution 16/18, Combating intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization of, and discrimination, incitement to violence and violence against persons based on religion or belief.6

According to the OIC, anything that criticizes Islam in any way whatsoever, whether true or false, is blasphemy — an offense against Islam. If, for example, you criticize Islam for Islamic terrorism, you are guilty of “incitement to violence”! So Islamic terrorism — whoops I said it again — is our fault! According to the OIC, this kind of talk should be criminally prosecuted under Islamic blasphemy laws, and while 16/18 pays lip service to free speech concepts, its true goal is to criminalize negative speech against Islam.

Such a prospect is something we can’t even conceive of here in America, but it is already happening in Europe and Canada, and will arrive in America shortly if not stopped now. CAIR’s Islamophobia report is the latest in a long line of efforts to build momentum for criminalizing anyone who dares to speak out against CAIR’s clearly subversive agenda, or any aspect of Islam for that matter. And this vicious effort to silence speech is just one element in the Left’s overall effort to shut down all opposition to its despotic aims.

But back to the report. It really would be nice if the mass media would do their job and see this report for the transparent fraud it is. But reliable leftists that they are, they don’t. NPR, for example, uncritically recites exactly what CAIR has published in its report.7 NPR thus provides yet another demonstration that it should not receive any public funding, and is too lazy to even fact-check the report, never mind question its substance.

For example, the report targets private charities as unwittingly funding a dark web of powerful anti-Muslim “hate” groups who receive billions of dollars! Oooh! Just as they don’t define Islamophobia, CAIR doesn’t define “hate” but rather leaves that up to the Southern Poverty Law Center, whose Heidi Beirich, SPLC’s “Intelligence Project” Director (a contradiction in terms), helped write the report.

And when the SPLC says you’re a “hater,” you just are; that’s all there is to it. No need to define it further. Antifa isn’t a hate group, according to SPLC’s sages, nor was James Hodgkinson, the congressional baseball shooter, who was simply angry over Trump, or Floyd Corkins, the homosexual activist who attempted to murder “as many as he could” at the Family Research Council’s D.C. headquarters in 2012. Both Corkins and Hodgkinson were inspired by SPLC’s “hate list.”8

CAIR’s $1.5 Billion Xenophobe Network

CAIR’s report claims that 39 xenophobic “hate” groups comprise a nefarious network receiving “billions” in “dark money” to oppose them. Never mind that their definition of a “hate” group is an absurd exaggeration, and is factually incorrect:

1. There were 47 groups listed in the report, not 39. Can CAIR even count? NPR?

2. Collectively, these 47 groups received approximately $1.4 billion over three years — about $450 million in one year, not “billions.”

3. Two-thirds of this income was received by one organization, Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN).

Wait a minute. CBN? The 700 Club is part of a vast, dark “Islamophobia” network? Seriously CAIR? The 700 Club? Seriously?

When you’re done laughing, consider: if CBN’s annual income is removed, the other 46 receive an annual total of $145.9 million/year. Spread across the 46 organizations excluding CBN gives an average annual revenue of $3.2 million each. Literally, a hill of beans in the nonprofit world. Even if you include CBN, the average for all of them is a mere $9.7 million — better, but nothing like the billions in funding received by the Left.

So let’s forget CBN. Thirty-one of the other 46 groups received a total of $16,985,068 in the latest year reported on their individual IRS tax-exempt filings (IRS Form 990). That comes to an average of $547,905 each. Most of these groups comprise one or a few individuals, so this “vast network” is beginning to look more and more like a guppy. Have a look at the chart:

Once again, we see the SPLC influence. First, SPLC attacks anything remotely Christian, so no surprise that CBN gets included. But much more importantly, the only way to inflate the numbers enough to use the “B” word as in billion is to include CBN. And then you have to add up three years. So combine SPLC’s hatred of Christianity with the group’s routine dishonesty, and this is what you get.

This alone should be enough to shut down the entire report and dismiss it with a withering volley of ridicule from the media. But of course the only reason they even attempted to publish this piece of fraud is that CAIR knew the media would cover for them.

And look at the list again: Forget CBN. Please. They are not part of any “dark” network of anything; they are merely the largest Christian broadcasting company in the nation. The National Review? Founded by William F. Buckley, NR is one of the oldest conservative publications in the U.S. Except for a few writers, it is also one of the last Never-Trump holdouts. Foundation for Defense of Democracies? There is little if any connection between this group and the others on this list, other than that CAIR/SPLC hates them. They are not a “network” of any kind, let alone “dark.”

How about the American Future Fund (AFF)?9 I’ve never even heard of it. But it turns out to be a group that promotes “conservative, free market ideals.” Whoo! Dangerous! Its title page thanks U.S. Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) for supporting the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Are these all haters too? Are they guilty by association with this obviously nefarious organization?

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), is the organization formerly directed by current Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow. It was founded in 1990 to be the conservative answer to the ACLU. Keep that in mind. The American Family Association (AFA) is just another conservative Christian organization (haters, according to the SPLC).

AFF, ACLJ, and AFA are the only three groups besides CBN that receive more than $10 million annually; not a vast multi-billion dollar network.

The table on page 43 summarizes revenue and net assets for the top 16 organizations, which are contained in their IRS 990 Tax Exempt returns. CAIR too claims that its figures were taken from revenues reported in the same IRS returns, but provides no links or sources. The 31 organizations not individually named in the table were too small to bother with. If you want to check for yourself, see www.guidestar.org and use its search function to look them up.

CAIR next attacks foundations which donate to these evil, Islamophobic groups: “Readers of this report will be as dismayed as its authors to learn that the same organizations that fund fundamental American institutions such as the Boy Scouts, American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army are also responsible for providing funding to anti-Muslim, Islamophobic groups.”

They cite certain “donor-advised funds” like Schwab, Fidelity, and Vanguard, as though they were somehow evil. These funds allow donors to remain anonymous. In today’s hyper-partisan atmosphere, where the Left and its Muslim allies are constantly seeking to expose, dox, and threaten donors, who can blame them?

But wait a minute! CAIR gets money from Schwab and Proteus, according to Foundation Search.10 Both are donor-advised funds. While CAIR has not received anything from Fidelity or Vanguard recently, many of its Muslim Brotherhood allies have. The Islamic Society of North America received $176,600 from Fidelity and $79,500 from Vanguard. The U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations, the Islamic Circle of North America, the Muslim Public Affairs Council, and the Muslim Legal Fund of America also receive donations from Fidelity and/or Schwab.

In fact, Vanguard, Schwab, Fidelity, Tides, and other donor-advised funds are major financiers of the Left, and donations to non-Left groups are tiny by comparison. So CAIR’s characterization of these funding sources is yet another fraudulent misdirection in this report. CAIR’s true goal in publishing this deception is to intimidate those funds from offering any money at all to CAIR’s political enemies.

CAIR’s Red-Green Axis

So let’s have a look at CAIR’s allies. Unlike CBN, National Review, and the American Future Fund, we can legitimately include CAIR’s listed Collaborators and Supporters because they work hand in glove with CAIR and other Muslim Brotherhood groups all the time. And I have left out many others.

Now this is billion with a “b” and you don’t have to add three years to get it. Compare what the ACLU gets annually with the ACLJ. Including the ACLU Foundation comes to over half a billion annually, compared with ACLJ’s $22.8 million, or literally 23 times the amount. This is akin to a Great White shark being challenged by a tern.

Virtually all of the Islamic groups listed are part of the Muslim Brotherhood network — and it really is a network. The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is believed to have founded the Muslim Student Association, the Islamic Society of North America, and the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT). The IIIT is also believed to have coined the phrase “Islamophobe” in the 1980s.

NAIT is not listed in the table because it claims to be a “religious” organization and thus is not required to report income. But it owns the mortgages, by its own admission, on at least 20 percent of the mosques in the U.S.,11 valued in the hundreds of millions.12

Note also the curious little entry at the end of the table, the Washington Trust Foundation, Inc. While its income is almost non-existent, its net assets are close to $5 million. What gives? It turns out that this organization holds real estate properties worth over $5 million for CAIR!13 Is this a method for CAIR to undervalue itself?

And yes, the CAIR family now includes the Anti-Defamation League. What is it with leftist Jewish groups, that they are so willing to collaborate with those who want to kill them? The ADL has increasingly gotten on board with CAIR, SPLC, and the ACLU in piling on about “white nationalism.” ADL recently partnered with EMGAGE in opposing Ken Isaacs, President Trump’s nominee to lead the International Organization for Migration.14 IOM is the UN organization that wrote the Migrant Compact that President Trump thankfully did not sign. The Compact includes strong prohibitions criminalizing speech critical of migrants and “racial, ethnic, and religious profiling of migrants.”15

Six Really Baaad Islamophobes

But it gets worse. CAIR also singled out six individuals CAIR has hated for a long time: Daniel Pipes of Middle East Forum, Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, Brigitte Gabriel of ACT for America, David Yerushalmi of the American Freedom Law Center, David Horowitz of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, and Pam Geller of the American Freedom Defense Initiative.

Note first that CAIR names the people, not the organizations, so it takes a few extra steps to get to the truth. This was done on purpose. You first have to find the organizations they represent — buried in the report’s tiny text — and then find the IRS Form 990s showing income the groups received. They do not cite or provide links to those 990s anywhere in the document either. It’s truly shoddy work — deliberately.

But the report also names people instead of organizations for a second reason. It is a deliberate, premeditated effort to target those people. It is a campaign of psychological terrorism against individuals, in an ongoing effort to destroy their reputations, discourage funders, and as an object lesson to scare less brave souls who might otherwise be inclined to speak out or help out.16 As we have seen with the SPLC and the emergence of the fascist Antifa, these people and their families’ very lives are threatened. This is CAIR/SPLC’s goal for us.

This subhuman behavior defines the bottom dwellers of the Left and their Muslim allies. It is difficult to accept that such people reside on U.S. soil, reaping its wealth, tolerance, and generosity, while relentlessly seeking to polarize its people and destroy the institutions attempting to keep America alive. They are literally an enemy fifth column, operating with impunity — at least so far — because of the cover they get from media, the legal system, and sympathetic politicians.

CAIR claims these “Islamophobe” groups have collectively received $125 million from various funders (including those evil donor-advised funds). WOW! Where did they get all that money? This is the first I’ve heard of it! They get nothing like that, even if you add up three years. Here are the facts:

CAIR’s $125 Million Islamophobia Network

Revenues

Net Assets

ACT for America

$128,631

$1,053,938

American Freedom Defense Initiative

$405,658

Middle East Forum

$4,361,751

$5,463,633

TOTAL

$18,697,070

$10,182,968

Whoops! Not quite $125 million, eh? I work with these groups. Most are living on a shoestring budget. CAIR knows this but purposely doesn’t mention it. Because the report explicitly claims the other organizations received their $1.5 billion in three years, the implication here is that these six organizations received their $125 million in three years. But that is impossible. Over three years they received a total of $55.5 million, (I counted). CAIR had to go back at least seven years to tally up $125 million. But the report doesn’t tell you that.

CAIR assumes most readers will likely just accept what they say and move on. How many know how to find IRS 990s or have even heard of them, let alone have the time to look them all up? Note to reader: never take CAIR/SPLC’s word for anything. They lie and misrepresent constantly. It is an essential component of their strategy.

Putting CAIR/SPLC and intelligence side by side is a contradiction in terms. Consider, for example, that the SPLC’s “Hate list” treats each of ACT for America’s 500-odd nationwide chapters as a standalone entity. These are all volunteer groups that receive no money at all. But what if ACT took its annual income of $128,631 and distributed it evenly to each chapter? It would mean they would each receive about $257. Whoo hoo! ACT’s legislation and agendas include: combating terrorism, defending constitutional freedoms, immigration reform, supporting military and law enforcement, and defending Israel. What is Islamophobic about that?

So how much does poor little CAIR take in annually? Oh snap! Look at that. All by itself, CAIR receives $14.0 million annually through its foundation and network of offices, and has amassed $11.6 million in net assets — not including the $5 million held by Omeish’s Trust.17 Poor, beleaguered CAIR. All by itself, it almost equals what these six “Islamophobes” pull in, and has more in assets.

All these groups have been effectively exposing CAIR’s association with terrorist groups (specifically Hamas), and its overall subversive agenda that follows the Muslim Brotherhood “Civilization Jihad” plan for the Brotherhood in America, specifically: “The Ikhwan [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”18

For example, recently the American Freedom Law Center (AFLC) defeated CAIR in two very important court cases. CAIR has now agreed to pay significant legal fees and other compensation to plaintiffs in a Virginia case represented by AFLC, and another case in Oklahoma.19,20 In each case, CAIR relented when it became clear that the alternative was to carry the case to trial. Going to trial would expose CAIR to a close examination of its terrorist connections and subversive agenda. CAIR demurred. CAIR is plainly not a “social welfare” organization, a designation required for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt designation.

So now CAIR is attempting to destroy AFLC through defamation and intimidation because it can’t defeat AFLC in court. Is that not prosecutable as well? CAIR’s tactics, while not technically terrorism, will effectively achieve the same result if they are successful.

The “Islamophobia” report also lists income over three years for David Horowitz ($1,690,000), Frank Gaffney ($886,000), and Pam Geller ($821,000) and describes them as “profiting from hate.” (Again, they use three years instead of one to make it look like a lot). They earn every penny, fighting like Don Quixote against the monstrous, towering monolith of the communist Left/Muslim Brotherhood alliance, the leftist education establishment, Hollywood, and mainstream media propagandists.21 Pam Geller needs a constant security detail to protect her from CAIR’s Islamic terrorist buddies. (If you would like to learn more about the Left/Islamic alliance, read my latest book, The Red-Green Axis 2.0: An Existential Threat to America and the World, just out at Amazon. You will learn just how malevolent and deeply entrenched this movement is.)

CAIR’s report, meanwhile, conveniently ignores the income of CAIR’s Founder and National Director, Nihad Awad: $734,000 over three years. (He’s listed as Nihad A. Hammad.22 What’s with that, an alias?) Profiting from fronting for terrorists, Nihad, Hammad, Awad, or whatever your name really is? Who said terrorism doesn’t pay? OK so maybe you don’t actively engage in terrorism. You were formerly, by your own admission, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in America — indisputably a terrorist group.23

How about defamation? The SPLC has made hundreds of millions of dollars destroying individuals and organizations they hate through defamation. So how much do SPLC’s leaders make? Over the most recent three years, prior to their departure from the organization in 2019, CEO Richard Cohen made $1,173,839. Founder and Chief Trial Counsel Morris Dees made $1,185,099. Even little Heidi Beirich made almost half a million ($494,191).

With the media, Hollywood, the education establishment, and a major political party totally owned by the radical Left and more than willing to echo your messages, destroying your opponents through defamation is a pretty good business plan. All you need do is abandon all ethics, integrity, morality, and any interest in the truth. Right up Nihad Awad’s alley.

The Muslim Brotherhood is responsible for virtually all Islamic terrorism in the world. In a declassified secret FBI memo, an informant disclosed that the Muslim Brotherhood’s “ultimate goal is to enforce, by ‘violence if necessary,’ the Islamic Revolution on all non-Islamic Governments.”24 That would include the United States.

This Islamophobia report is just the latest in a long line of assaults against CAIR and Co. against its political enemies. These assaults are a form of pre-violent stage terrorism that does not yet kill individuals directly, but attempts to destroy their ability to earn an income and survive, while intimidating would-be allies.

As a Muslim Brotherhood entity, CAIR shares its penchant for terrorism. Numerous CAIR members have been convicted of terrorism-related charges,25 and the Muslim Brotherhood only uses different methods in the U.S. because it is a wiser strategy for the moment. CAIR’s Awad has publicly allied himself with both the PLO and Hamas terrorist groups in the past.26 The Muslim Brotherhood and all the groups in its network must be declared a terrorist organization. Only a strong action like this will end CAIR’s destructive agenda.
