A Note from the Editor

‘The National Question’

The Internet magazine (web-zine) VDARE.COM is an unrivaled source of information and analysis on immigration-related issues. VDARE’s collection of contributors includes self-described liberals, conservatives, environmentalists, feminists, traditionalists, Republicans, Democrats, Independents…well, you get the picture. What unites them is their concern with what their editor, Peter Brimelow, describes as “The National Question.” Does the United States have a “national interest?” And if there is a national interest, how do current immigration policies impact it?

In this issue of The Social Contract we are pleased to feature a selection of recent articles posted at VDARE.COM. Brenda Walker, a regular contributor to TSC, edited this special collection, which, in its hard-copy print version, is a TSC exclusive.

You are in store for some great reading.

Two featured selections in this issue are reprinted (with permission of the publisher) from Immigration and the American Future, edited by Chilton Williamson, Jr., 307 pages, 2007, $24.95. The book is available from chroniclesmagazine.org.

Errata: two transpositional errors slipped past the editors in the last issue. The subhead on page 109 should be Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the total figure in the chart (under Amount column) should be $346.4 billion. Please accept our apologies for these typographical errors.

The cover photo by Kevin Lamb is from a press conference at the National Press Club, April 8, 2008, which featured the release of Ed Rubenstein’s study on the fiscal impact of immigration.
