JOHN ATTARIAN WILL BE SORELY MISSED

Dr. John Attarian, one of the most interesting and thoughtful writers in the immigration reform movement, died suddenly from heart failure on December 31, 2004 at the age of 48. He earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan and was a pioneer analyst of the Social Security privatization proposals, which he viewed as a species of fraud. (See his articles on this topic in the archives of www.LewRockwell.com.) In articles and a monograph Attarian also demonstrated that mass immigration would not "save" Social Security. He recently published critiques of multiculturalism, the modern conservative movement, oil depletion, and a defense of the brand of "steady state" economics championed by Herman Daly. At the time of his unexpected death John had just finished a book on mass immigration and public health, as well as a challenging study of the Marquis de Sade as a literary figure and moral revolutionary. Dr. Attarian was also a novelist and artist. And he was by far one of the nicest people the editors and publisher of this journal have ever dealt with. Please visit the archives of www.TheSocialContract.com to read John Attarian's many valued contributions to our journal.

We wish to thank contributor Brenda Walker for assembling the front section of this issue dealing with the impact of Islam on Western societies. We encourage readers to visit her websites
